World War I

World War I, long expected by wise observers in Europe, started in 1914. The USA finally got into it the spring of 1917 and had to have aircraft. They had very few. The US government surveyed the aeronautical field and decided that Glenn Curtiss' factory was the most favorable to take over. They did so and enormously enlarged it.

Any complete history of Glenn Curtiss' great aeronautical work must make clear that Glenn Curtiss was always short of money. Now for the first time in his life Glenn H. Curtiss was free from worry over a shortage of money. In fact he had so much money at long last that he could hardly realize it. During this time I made photographs showing all of the aircraft factory interiors.

I was working at the special experimental building for military aircraft in the fall of 1918 when the war ended.
